With thousands of years of history, Hanoi, the Capital of Vietnam, is known as the land concentrating Vietnamese quintessence, which has been preserved and developed from one generation to another. With the famous name "the land of hundred jobs", Hanoi makes up about 80% of fine arts and handicrafts in the country. In recent years, traditional craft villages such as Van Phuc silk, Bat Trang pottery, Phu Vinh rattan and bamboo, Chuyen My mother-of-pearl, Ha Thai lacquer... are more widely known both inside and outside the country not only by their cultural values but also by their social and economic values. Thus, promoting the development of these villages and the handicraft industry is one of the major undertakings that has been clearly defined in the socio-economic development strategy of the Capital.
“Hanoi Craft Week 2009", which was successfully held with the participation of 5000 products of nearly 100 businesses, has become an important highlight of the year in introducing and promoting the handicrafts and traditional craft villages, and in seeking opportunities for exports. In promoting the achievements gained, “Hanoi Craft Week 2010" with the theme "Thousand years quintessence" is to be held from August 4th to August 9th, 2010, at Friendship Cultural Palace in Hanoi. This is one of the important and meaningful events to celebrate the Great Festival “1000 years of Thang Long – Hanoi” and the national tourism year.
Hanoi Craft Week 2010 draws attention of a large number of handicraft artisans, producers and exporters in Hanoi and from the whole the country. Diverse activities are included such as product exhibitions, international conferences, handicraft village tours, businesses matching, gift model design competition... Especially, there are also participations of importers and designers from big handicraft import markets like EU, U.S., South Korea, Japan...
Hanoi People's Committee would like to invite craftsmen, crafts production and trading companies, domestic and foreign organizations to take part in Hanoi Craft Week 2010.
Sincerely,
In representation of Hanoi City People's Committee
